TFT DISPLAY
TFT Display aka Thin Filmed Transistor Display is a type of LCD.The panel of this display is thick. This was an older version of display in smartphones.It was a low quality display it was cheap and affordable.The color reproduction of this display was not good.It had the screen blending issues.The display panel is very thick.It is easily broken if your mobile hits on ground.It consumes lot of battery.The viewing angles and pixel density was bad.It even had slow response time.You may find this type of display in some low range smartphones nowadays.It is outdated now.
IPS LCD DISPLAY
IPS LCD aka In Plane Switching Display.This is an advanced technology of display it is developed to solve the problems faced by mobile users due to TFT displays.This type of display is used in some mid range smartphones nowadays.In this type of display there is a back light present behind the display panel this back light is filtered by diffusion sheets and produces various colors to display panel and we can see the display.So basically this type of display is based on phenomena of diffusion. You will find better viewing angles than TFT display.This type of display produces natural and most accurate colors and better response time.It consumes less battery than TFT display and has a good pixel density. Major drawback of this display is you won't find perfect blacks in this display because of diffusion.If you set a pure black wallpaper and turn off the phone and then turn on the phone you will definitely find noticable difference in black color.Major advantage of this display is that you won't find any screen burning issues.You will find good sunlight eligibility in this type of display.
AMOLED DISPLAY
AMOLED DISPLAY aka Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode is also an advanced technology of display.This display is used in some mid range,low range and flagship smartphones nowadays.There is no back light present behind the display panel.The whole display panel is made up of individual pixels so basically we can say one pixel equals to one led.These pixel produces own light.You will find better viewing angles than IPS LCD display.The color accuracy is less than IPS LCD displays.The color reproduction is less of natural more of vibrant,bright,more saturated,high luminance and eye catchy.The blacks are produced pure blacks because there is no diffusion when it is required to produce black colors the pixels simply turn off.If you set a black wallpaper and turn off then phone and turn on again you cannot notice whether the phone is on or off.It consumes less battery than IPS LCD display.Sunlight eligibility is good but not better than IPS LCD display.The Major drawback of this display is that you will find screen burning issues.
IPS LCD DISPLAY vs AMOLED DISPLAY
IPS LCD display produce natural and accurate colors whereas AMOLED display produces more of saturated,vibrant and eye catchy colors. IPS LCD display have thick panel and AMOLED display has thin panel.Screen Bleeding is issue in IPS LCD display whereas Screen Burning issue is present in AMOLED display. IPS LCD has thick panel and AMOLED has thin panel. IPS LCD is cheap and AMOLED is expensive.
SUPER AMOLED
Super AMOLED is an upgrade of AMOLED DISPLAY.This display consumes 20% less battery and are 20% more brighter than AMOLED display.This type of display is popular in Flagship Smartphones nowadays.
Retina DISPLAY
Last but not least we will talk about Retina display.You will be shocked after reading that Retina display is an IPS LCD display.That's right it is just an marketing term used by Apple for branding.Many users find that it is an amazing display because of the Retina term but it is an IPS LCD display.It means all the smartphone you use having an IPS LCD display has Retina display.
