There are two types of toilets in japan.
1.Squat Toilet
The traditional Japanese toilet also know as squat toilet has a similar design like Asian toilets in India.It used in public places such as tourist destinations and old buildings but as far as the modern era is concerned you won't find these kind of toilets in homes.
2.Western Toilet
These is modern day toilet technology also know as Washlet used by Japanese people.The design is similar to toilets in European and Western countries.These are the most common toilet you will find in Japanese homes.
Features-
The integrated bidet is a nozzle comes out of the toilet and it squirts water on genitals to clean it.This nozzle squirts warm temperature of water not very hot not too cold.This nozzle cleans itself before and after the use.You can listen to your favourite music when doing your business.
The flush releases water from sides instead from above causing it swirl around the bowl.This concept saves lot of water.A single flush take only 4 liters of water.There is a function to keep the seat heated.Heated seat makes Japanese people make more comfortable while doing their business.This feature is very common and found in almost every toilet.Japanese people find the sound awkward so they introduced a feature to drown out the sound of you going about your business, there is a function that simulates the sound of flushing water.Emergency call button is a feature that allows you to alert people if you suddenly feel sick. credits goes to famous Japanese company TOTO that has been working on toilets technology since 1980s and bought innovation in this technology.
Future Developments
Researchers are working in technology that can measure body fat,blood pressure sugar and pulse.and gives the results to doctor through built in telephone.Even they are working on voice command technology for toilets.This type technology is yet to come in market.
2.Vending machines
Japan has the highest density of vending machines 1 Machine every 23 people and 5 million vending machines throughout the country.The concept behind having many vending machines is that it cost saves labor cost and has negligible maintenance.More trash cans needs to be emptied.The drink serving vending machines are most popular vending machines in nation serving hot drinks and cold drinks.Even if the tourist is unfamiliar with the Japanese language just looking at the color of drink the tourist will know whether it is hot drink or cold drink.Red stands for hot drink and blue stands for cold drink. Other than drinks there are vending machines which serve other items such as vegetables,fruits,prayercards,snacks,flowers,
ties,toys,noodles,eggs,batteries,umbrellas,surgical mask,mobile device chargers,rice,an even clothes.There are also alcohol serving machines which offer beer and cigarette However the number of these machines is very less in Japan.
3.Heated Carpet
We wear sweaters and socks to keep us warm during winter days.We use carpet to keep our floor warm.Japanese people has developed an electric carpet which is heated using electricity.Due to electric supply it provides us heat and temperature can be adjusted upto 120 degrees.It consumes power upto 500 watts.This carpet is 100% waterproof and stain resistant.
4.Capsule Hotel
This hotel has small bed sized rooms.The per night cost of this hotel is in between 3000 to 4000 Yen.This capsule hotel gives you same amenities like usual hotels such as electric consoles,TV,alarm clock,radio.There is a curtain to maintain the privacy of the customer.You get hygienic shared toilets and bathrooms in this hotel.You will be surprised to know that most of the customers are Japanese work men who has drunk a lot.These Japanese men come to the hotel for night stay because they find it embarrassing to return to their homes to face their spouses.Some of the capsule hotels provide amenities like vending machines,game rooms and manga libraries.Smoking and drinking is not allowed in the capsule.
5.The Henn na, or Strange Hotel

This is the world's first hotel located in Nagasaki,Japan.It is even recognized in Guinness Book of world record in 2015.At first you have to sanitize your hands before touching anything.You will be welcomed by three robots at the front desk.Two of them are humanoids and one is a dinosaur.There is a payment tablet which you have to use to book your room.There is even a robotic fish tank at the front desk.Unfortunately there were many robots in the hotel earlier but they were fired because they were causing issues in the hotel.243 robots were fired in total.
There is an arm robot which is use to store and take out your luggage in the locker.You get other facilities like free WiFi,TV,Parking area,Private and Air conditioning rooms.
Some While you have to pay for other facilities like Bar,Cafe and karaoke and gaming with 360 degree screen.
